The Ford Mustang is one of just a handful of cars that have such a huge, thriving aftermarket, that there is no part impossible to find (old or new). As such, the price of properly restoring a Mustang has come down quite a bit in recent years. But some cars, even Mustangs may just not be worth the tens of thousands of dollars it would cost to properly restore them. That leaves their owners with a conundrum. Do I really want to scrap a bonafide classic like a Mustang? And if not, what do I do with it?
Well you could always turn your classic Mustang into a dirt-track racing 4×4, like the guy in this video did. Mustang Heaven stumbled across this video on the YouTube, and while there isn’t a whole lot of info on it…what do you really need to know, other than it is a 4×4 Mustang?
The comments section of this video is crowded with speculation as to whether or not this mudder’s body is a of ’67 or ’68 vintage. Suffice to say, there is no consensus on what year this Mustang’s body was built, and in reality it is a hodgepodge of vehicles to begin with…so why even bother trying to recognize what year the body is from? We’re not sure what chassis the this 4×4 Mustang is riding on either, though judging from the short chassis and (relatively) low ride height, we’d wager it is either a Ford Ranger or similarly-sized truck.
According to the video, on the first night this Mustang broke the driveshaft at the starting line from so much “tork.” But as this combo-creation drives past the camera, we can see that the body looks pretty clean…at least from a distance. This reminds us of the MUDstang, a nice clean mudder with a very dirty purpose. Still, we don’t imagine this Mustang mudder started out as a very nice car, so at least it’s still alive and kickin’. We get a kick out of these hybrid Mustangs, though we know most purists don’t like them. But what about you guys?
