What was once a simple video of an as-yet-unheard-of rally driver rocking his Subaru through an airfield has become an international phenomenom that has launched fashion, video games, toys, and brand new motorsports events. We are referring of course to Ken Block and his series of Gymkhana videos. Since making the jump from Subie for Ford, Block has racked up an impressive array statistics, which has been collected in this handy-dandy infographic.
Let’s just work our way down the list, starting with arguably the most obvious sign of Gymkhana’s success. To date, the four Gymkhana videos have garnered nearly 135 MILLION views. That makes them amongst the most popular YouTube videos of all time.
Further down we see a comparison of Block’s Fiesta to a NASCAR. While the NASCAR makes 445 horsepower and 720 ft-lbs of torque, the Gymkhana Fiesta makes 650 horsepower and 750 ft-lbs of torque. The Gymkhana Fiesta also goes through about 40 tires for just 5 minutes of video footage, and it takes Block just 7 seconds to shred a brand new tire. That sounds…expensive.
The infographic also answers other questions, like where did Ken Block’s #43 come from? Well that is derived from the location of the letters DC, which form the logo for the shoe company Block co-founded. If you are a fan of Gymkhana (and chances are that you are), then this infographic serves up all sorts of juicy information. Bon appetite!
