Race on Sunday, Sell on Monday. That was the mantra of muscle car makers back in the heyday of high-powered factory cars. Of course back then, things were a little more hectic and last minute as racing grew from a niche motorsport to mainstream almost overnight. That is part of what made these old racing series so compelling, and also led to so many cool cars garnering an awesome story to go along with them.

Up on eBay is a genuine 1969 Boss 302 Mustang that was not only a pace car for a race event back in ‘69, but was then turned into an SCCA Trans Am A-Sedan class race car, which is how it sits today.

This thing is vintage American muscle, with the Boss 302 engine, a 4-speed Toploader transmission, roll cage, a racing carburetor, and 9-inch rear end. More than that, it’s been converted into a full-fledged race car, and according to the seller it has spent most of its life that way, though not before pacing the Kent 300 race in 1969.

The seller goes on to say how a local Ford dealer was contacted about providing a pace car for the event. Naturally the dealer selected a Boss Mustang, and a customer came in the day after the race to buy that very car. That’s some cool history right there, and with a full racing getup, all that’s left for you to do is send the check, strap in, and race the hell out of this original Boss race car.
