Before taking the 2010 Formula Drift Championship title by storm and becoming a big name player in the world of professional racing, Vaughn Gittin Jr. started on the bottom rungs of the motorsports world. Using his own money, he had to trailer his Fox-body Mustang, setup for drifting, from track to track.

Though he has definitely upgraded in terms of racing rides, Gittin still holds on to the Fox-body Mustang. As this next video shows, he also still flogs the hell out of it every chance he gets. Enter…the Hoonistig.

While Japan likes to take credit for drifting, American drivers perfect the art of getting sideways a long time ago on the beaches of Daytona (and probably even before then). Need anymore proof? Just look at American muscle cars, with their big torquey V8 engines and rear-wheel drive. Japan’s best drift car was the Nissan 240sx, a rear-drive 4-banger that only came with a turbo if you bought one from Japan.

Gittin proves this point by the ease with which he skates this Fox-body Mustang across the track. We got a preview of his Fox-drifting skills in another video earlier in the week. But this inside view lets us see how Gittin drives behind the mask of a wicked-looking skull face. It’s a pretty intense mask, and if we were racing against Gittin wearing it, it might strike just a little bit of doubt into our driving confidence. Just sayin’.
