While tracing the trajectory of change in the automotive industry is easy, the way products are marketed to people has also undergone an incredible transition in the last century. Brochures were once an integral part of car buying, with families crowding around a booklet loaded with features, options, and buzzwords. Today, most of that same info can be had with a quick Google search, but have you ever wanted to look at old brochures…just because?
Well now you have a chance, as Mustang Heaven has uploaded dozens of brochures from the 1964 ½ Mustang all the way through the 2013 model. Time to take a look back at the Mustangs of yesteryear…from the consumer’s point of view.
The first Mustang brochure talks a lot about beauty, elegance, and styling. There is hardly any notion that this car has some serious performance potential. Now compare that to the 1966 Shelby GT350 brochure, which talks about the performance aspects of the Shelby-ized Mustang left and right.
The 1979 Mustang brochure is particularly interesting as it marks the return to Mustang performance, but with an emphasis on efficiency as well. This is the first turbocharged Mustang Ford offered, and the brochure really emphasizes how this compact powerplant can keep up with the V8 vehicles offered by competitors.
There are plenty of other cool features in these brochures that many of us might have missed the first time around. You can waste a lot of time pouring over these brochures…that’s what lunch breaks are for, after all.
