It’s still only May, but that means there is less than six months to go before the 2013 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Sounds like plenty of time to put together a badass custom ride, but we all know the creative process can get sidetracked by all sorts of things. Time flies by when you’re building a custom car, and many projects get started for the following year almost as soon as the show ends each fall.
BXR Motors has just announced that it has secured enough financial backing to make the Bailey Blade XTR, the brainchild of designer Neal Bailey. Providing power for this car will be a 5.0 liter Coyote engine and either two turbochargers or a supercharger, this custom supercar should be ready in time for the SEMA show. This further cements to us that the Coyote is quickly becoming a popular high-tech choice for car builders verses some of the old standby engines of the past.
Offered with between 550 and 750 horsepower, the Bailey Blade XTR has been on the drawing board for some time now. It’s short, it’s squat, and it is a testament to form over function in supercar styling. This isn’t a car trying to bedazzle you with snazzy looks or excessive features, this is a pure speed machine. The Blade XTR is expected to weigh just 2,600 pounds, so 550-750 hp will mean it won’t take long to go fast either.
Acceleration is estimated to be in the 3.2 second range for 0 to 60 mph, and active aerodynamics could help the XTR approach the 200 mph barrier. With just five months to go on a completely custom car build, BXR Motors certainly has their work cut out for them. If they can get the Blade together in time for SEMA, it would make a great reveal for a wild ride.
