Destroying your prized Mustang Cobra? That’s bad enough. But doing so with your girlfriend in the passenger seat…that’s the icing on the cake. But it’s exactly what played out for AJ Rubalcado and his significant other at the Caprock Motorplex in Penwell, Texas over the weekend after he lost control of his 730 horsepower pony car.

Rubalcado, who reportedly was part of a match race set up between he and the Corvette seen in the other lane, had just completed a base tune of 730 horsepower and 800 ft./lbs. of torque on the all-black ‘Terminator’ and decided to take his girlfriend along for the ride. Early in the run, a tie rod is reported to have broken, and you can see from the onboard GoPro footage that the car quickly becomes a handful as Rubalcado saws the wheel back and forth trying to keep it in his lane.

The car crossed the finish strip right on the centerline, but things got ugly real quick at that point, as the Mustang takes a hard right turn and sideswipes the guardrail. With the steering mostly kaput by this stage in the game, Rubalcado and his passsenger are just along for the ride as the Mustang shoots back across the track, climbs up and over the guardrail, and rolls over on its roof.

According to information provided with the video, both Rubalcado and his girlfriend emerged from the car under their own power, and he’s said to already be looking for a new Mustang shell to put the running gear from the totaled car into. No word on whether he still has the girlfriend.
