Yet another garage find story of a classic that has seen much better days, but thank goodness this one has a happy ending. Well, it’s in the process of becoming a happy one as we speak. Here is a shell of a ’68 Shelby GT500 that is off for a complete restoration.
According to CarsinBarns, Chase from Michigan found this 1968 Shelby GT500 a couple of years ago. It was sitting in a garage a few miles down the road.
While the owner declared that it wasn’t for sale, he was willing to sell it for a high asking price which Chase found to be too much considering the condition of the car. The car was lacking its engine and transmission and was in need of a complete and total overhaul. It’s not clear how long the car has been sitting there collecting dust.
Not wanting to let the car completely slip through the cracks, Chase informed a friend of his that just so happened to be a car collector. This friend decided to purchase the car and it is going through a complete restoration that should be finished at the end of 2015.
Hopefully we will get to see how this Mustang Shelby GT500 turns out by the end of the year. We know it hurts to see these cars sitting, and we all hear the collective thump when these neglected cars are posted. But when one has a happy ending, does it restore your faith in gearhead humanity?
