Legend has it that Italian exotic car maker Lamborghini was founded when patriarch Ferruccio Lamborghini found his Ferrari used a tractor clutch. Being a tractor salesman himself, Lamborghini went to Ferrari and demanded a replacement, but was rebuffed. So he founded his own car company which today is probably best known for being an over-the-top trendsetter commonly associated with scissor, or “Lambo” doors.
While Lambo doors can be found on everything from Honda Civics to genuine supercars, more often than not they detract, rather than add coolness to a car. But what if that car is a 662 horsepower 2013 Shelby GT500?
That’s the quandary today’s eBay find presents. The mileage on the odometer stands at almost 4,700 miles, suggesting to us that this was either a trade-in or a repo. Whether the Lambo doors were added by the first owner, or the dealership as a way to make the car stand out, we can’t say.
But we can say that the $59,995 price tag is borderline insulting. First off, you can buy a brand new Shelby GT500 from Ford for almost $5,000 less. Secondly, it won’t come with a host of value-reducing modifications like a touchscreen Pioneer head unit (really? Ford’s billion-dollar SYNC and MyFord Touch systems weren’t good enough?) or “custom” 20-inch wheels that are simply the stock 2013 GT500 wheels.
We don’t want to say that this Shelby GT500 is ruined…but it seems like it was modified by a teenager, and not a serious racer or collector. All told, the Lambo doors don’t even seem like the worst modification to this Shelby anymore.
