The Global RallyCross circuit is a relatively new sport to Americans, combining rally racing and “X-treme” motorsports ala the ESPN X-Games into a single racing event that draws big crowds and big names. Among these big names is Top Gear Host and all-around motorsports badass Tanner Foust, who was on hand in Southeast England last weekend for the first RallyCross race of the 2013 season.
Just as Foust dominated the RallyCross circuit in 2012, he is off to a strong start, taking home the first victory of the season at the Lydden Hill circuit in Southeast England. It’s already looking like another dominant season for the Top Gear host.
Of course that doesn’t mean the competition was easy.. For one thing, half the track is tarmac, the other gravel, meaning drivers must adopt an almost split personality when it comes to racing. Foust also suffered a blown tire during the first heat, though he managed to recover and make it to the finals, leading the last race from beginning to end. This gives him the first win of the season and puts him at the top of the rankings, for now.
Foust has become the driver to beat in Global RallyCross since entering the series three years ago, and he will be competing in two RallyCross series across three continents this year. In other words, Foust is gonna be a busy guy, though it’s clear that he remains a dominant force, whether he is rally racing, drifting, or just hosting one of the most entertaining car shows on television. Here’s to another winning season!
