Ever since the 2015 Mustang was unveiled last Thursday, we’ve seen more and more reports of the car out in the wild, despite the fact that it isn’t scheduled to be released to the general public until the fourth quarter of 2014.
This particular video catches the car in a parking lot near Venice Beach shortly after the LA unveiling near
This car is a 5.0, GT per the badges present on the fenders and trunk lid. Interestingly it would seem that Ford is placing the running horse on the back of the car on non-GT models.
The driver fires it up, giving us a chance to hear the rumble of the now-familiar 5.0L Coyote engine, and the exhaust doesn’t sound too much different from a stock 2011-14 Coyote-powered machine.
The more we see the rear of the car, the more we like the blackout panel between the taillights and huge, chrome GT logo that’s front-and-center, in your face – like a Mustang should be.
The real-world walkaround of the car (not in a shiny, well-lit press area) gives us a good feel for how it’s wider and lower than the current iteration – with no factory 4×4 look, which we’re thrilled about!
Obviously, like any Mustang before it, the S550 will greatly benefit from an aftermarket exhaust system in terms of enhancing the sound, but we’d venture to guess it will have a voice much like the current Coyote.
We are also hearing rumors of another “surprise” that Ford hasn’t revealed yet regarding the S550, something that is a first in the industry. No hints as to what it is, but the car will get its first unveiling to the semi-general public later this week at the PRI show with Richard Petty in Booth # 1925 – maybe we’ll be able to glean some details at that point in time.
