Though arguably the biggest news coming from the reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang is the new look and EcoBoost engine, Ford has also pledged its pony car will be among the most-advanced vehicles on the road. In addition to features like Adaptive Cruise Control and updated TrackApps, the 2015 Mustang will be the first Ford vehicle to get the updated SYNC AppLink system, better integrating smartphones with automobiles.
The 2015 Mustang is the first Mustang to get the MyFord Touch touchscreen system, which will work with the voice-activated SYNC system and the AppLink feature to improve smartphone integration and connectivity with the sports car. This will make accessing popular apps like Pandora, Aha Radio, and USA Today an easy, two-step process.
First off, Ford has streamlined accessing the AppLink feature, as now users only have to press the SYNC button and say the desired application’s name. The system can also read incoming messages from your applications automatically, and an on-board GPS system will allow for apps and advertisements based on your location. Perhaps not exciting for you or I, but for marketers it’s a dream come true.
Ford also introduced four new apps for the AppLink system, including a Domino’s app that lets you order pizza directly from your car, as well as two parking-assistance app. Coincidentally, Ford opted to not add an optional parking assist feature seen on some other models to the 2015 Mustang, noting that most Mustang buyers consider themselves drivers, and good parkers. While we get what Ford is saying, we’ve seen plenty of Mustang drivers do a bad job of parking, and the feature probably would have come in handy for some younger drivers especially.
Maybe down the road Ford will make it an option, as we’re sure there are plenty of cool tech features in the pipeline for the future variations of the next-gen Mustang. What sorts of features are you hoping to see?
