Video: Turbo Coyote Vs ZR1 In High Speed Street Race

For the 2011 Mustang model year, Ford gave the pony car faithful it’s greatest gift in years, the 5.0 Coyote engine. While the GT500 produced great horsepower, it’s price caused it to remain out of the hands of many enthusiasts. Cars like the 2003-2004 Terminator Cobras also seemed out of reach for many, the Mustang quite frankly needed more punch to continue competing in the modern era of Muscle and performance cars.

While the Coyote engine produces impressive numbers off the showroom floor, it’s their response to modifications that makes them legendary among enthusiasts. Like all of their four-valved modular predecessors it was quickly learned that these engines respond incredibly well to boost, whether it’s from a supercharger, or turbo.

Our own Project Wild E Coyote is a turbocharged 2011 Mustang with acceleration and stopping power to rival most modern supercars. The white 2011 or 2012 Mustang in this video is not ours but it features what we can only assume is similar performance, at least in the acceleration department.

Filmed from the seat of a ZR1 Corvette, these two powerhouses square off on a stretch of highway somewhere down south we’d assume, although the video says “Russian Highway”. The ZR1 does well to keep up, but it’s not enough as the turbocharged Coyote easily walks away from the car that carried a sticker price of well over double what the owner likely has invested in the Mustang after modifications. Even the ZR1 driver is shocked, as you can tell from his not so safe for the kids language as the Coyote continues gaining ground and getting away.

The video is a short 40 seconds, and serves as a testament to what can be done with the right modifications on a Mustang, supercar level performance, without the supercar price tag.
