The 2015 Ford Mustang is an all-new pony car from front to back, top to bottom, and it’s apparent the second you set eyes on it. What might not be readily apparent are all the small changes Ford made that add up to make a huge difference not just in how the 2015 Mustang looks, but how it feels and drives too. Ford really nailed the look of the new Mustang, and it all comes down to the details.
MotoMan got a walkaround interview with Steven Ling, Ford’s Marketing Manager for North America. Ling let us in on some of the little tips and tricks that make the 2015 Mustang the car that it is.
One of the most apparent differences is how much lower the new Mustang is, with both the rood and roof sitting about 30mm, or 1.18 inches, lower than the previous model. The difference is even more drastic in the rear, where the Mustang sits 70mm, or 2.75 inches lower. That accentuates the 2015 Mustang’s width, as well as its low profile.
That extra width (about 1.5 inches) means wider tires can be fit in the rear wheels, but Ford also went to great lengths to improve the aerodynamics of the 2015 Mustang. Ling also lets us in on a secret about the new 5.0 V8, which he says integrates a lot of the Boss 302 technologies. Though he won’t say how much power it makes, he does say it will be north of the 420 horsepower the current Mustang makes.
Ling also says the 2.3 liter EcoBoost engine is going to make “at least 310” horsepower, and with more torque than the V6 motor too. There are a lot of other little details that make watching this long video worthwhile.
