For would-be customers and interested onlookers of the 2012 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet, it’s been a painstaking wait to get a glimpse of these cars in the wild. In early December at the PRI Show in Orlando, ford Racing officially unveiled the first ’12 CJ, and in the time since, has revealed the other two color options and even provided a walk-through of the engine assembly process. But the wait is almost over.
MSRP is set at $49,995. For more information, visit FordRacing.com.
In addition to several new features and options for the 2012 model, Ford Racing is also offering a roller version of the car for the first time, and recently opened up the ordering process for 2012 Mustang Competition Rollers. These cars, intended for those who wish to install their own drivetrain configuration, include such components as Strange Engineering brakes and 9″ axles with 4.29:1 gears, an 8.50 ET certified roll cage, complete Aeromotive fuel system, Weld Racing wheels wrapped in Goodyear tires, and complete chassis wiring.
Ford Racing is slated to produce just 25 of the Competition Rollers, with orders being taken only through March 13 at Ford Dealers nationwide. The cars will be serialized for collectibility, and will be available in Winner White color only. The option graphics package shown is available sepatately. Production is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2011.
To get up and running, buyers will need and engine with accessories, exhaust, mounts, engine wiring, and control system, as well as an air inlet system and transmission with shifter and driveshaft. With the roller, one could install Ford Racing’s 352 or 428 pushrod engines or the recently NHRA-approved three-valve 4.6L, or an engine of their choosing for NMRA or bracket competition.
