Hollywood and American car companies like Ford have historically been very close. The American love affair with the automobile transcends generations, and to this day the famous car chase from the 1960’s Steve McQueen flick “Bullitt” remains a top-contender for all-time best car chases. Ford has celebrated this movie with special-edition Mustangs before, but for the first time the Blue Oval is going to help recreate the chase for a TV Show.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that for the season finale on March 26th, the paranormal thriller “Alcatraz” will re-enact the famous Bullitt chase scene through the hilly streets of San Francisco.
Premiering on Fox a few months ago, Alcatraz is about 300 inmates and guards who mysteriously disappeared when the island-prison shut down in 1963. These missing people are slowly reappearing in the world, having not aged a single day. It’s another weird sci-fi movie from the mind of J.J. Abrams, for all you Lost fans out there.
For its season finale, the show will re-enact the Bullitt car chase through downtown San Francisco. The chase was caught filming recently, and will premiere on the season finale on March 26th. Obviously, a Mustang will be involved…and yes, the modern Charger will be present as well. Still we have to ask, will the directors do this chase scene justice, or is it best not to mess with a classic?
