Every January, car collectors and auto journalists descend on quiet Scottsdale, Arizona for the annual Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. This event kicks off the Barrett-Jackson car auction season, and major OEM’s use this event as a chance to sell new, one-offs, or just plain old “special” cars to wealthy buyers.
That tradition continues in 2012, with a host of awesome cars hitting the auction block at the Scottsdale auction. Among them is a host of awesome Mustangs, including a “special” 2013 Shelby GT500 that has no details whatsoever.
What is so special about it? The Barrett-Jackson auction webpage does not indicate what’s so damn special about this 2013 Shelby GT500, though we do have a few ideas. It could be the first of its kind, and seeing as how the 2013 Shelby GT500 gets a 5.8 liter V8 with a whopping 650 horsepower, that could be all the special a car like this needs to draw the big bucks. The proceeds will benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
Another thought; it could be painted a special color. Ford has already sold two Laguna Seca Edition Boss 302 Mustangs in special colors (Grabber Blue and School Bus Yellow) and they went for big, big bucks. Either way, we’re sure the next batch of Shelby’s will be worth their weight in American greenbacks.
