The BOSS moniker is among the best known in the automotive world, and it inspires people across the world with its image of powerful muscle cars. While most of us know about the BOSS 302 Mustangs that won the 1970 Trans Am Championship, there were other versions of the BOSS engine too, based on the 351W, 428, and 429 engines. But the days of “big block” muscle cars are behind us…though the inspiration remains strong to this day.
Galpin Auto Sports is known for putting together some crazy custom cars, but this BOSS 429-inspired Mustang has a noble cause at its heart. Mustangs Daily reports that GAS has teamed up with SPX to build this classic-themed modern Mustang that, once completed, will be auctioned off for charity.
Based on a 2012 Ford Mustang, this one-off custom widebody is inspired by the less-famous (but equally cool) BOSS 429 Mustang of 1969. The widebody kit will be crafted from steel, and the whole car will be painted Candy Apple Red Pearl. An aggressive hood scoop, side scoops, and front chin complete the look.
Under the hood, you unfortunately won’t find a modern day big block 429 V8. But worry not, because the modified and supercharged Coyote 5.0 engine is still capable of kicking out around 700 horsepower. Wilwood brakes front and rear provide stopping power, and a host of suspension upgrades should keep this one-off car firmly planted on the ground. Once completed (and shown off) this custom Mustang will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to support efforts to eradicate cancer at St. Jude’s Hospital. A great car, for a great cause.
