The Ford Mustang going global has the additional effect of allowing the various companies associated with the Mustang, such as Roush and Shelby, to extend their reach as well. This includes right-hand drive markets such as Australia, that were once off-limits to all but the most financially dedicated enthusiasts. But now Shelby can offer complete and official packages that are right at home in the Land Down Under.
The first right-hand drive Shelby Super Snake has been completed in Australia and boasts a supercharger upgrade that grants the 5.0 V8 a healthy 750 horsepower rating. Australia might be losing the Falcon, but the Super Snake should help heal those wounds quickly enough.
Completed by Mustang Motorsport near Melbourne, Australia, the Shelby Super Snake package turns your typical Mustang into a drag strip villain. Options include your choice of either a Whipple or Kenne Bell blower, substantial exhaust and suspension upgrades 3.73:1 rear-axle gears, half-shafts, and a short-throw shifter, as well as cooling upgrades, 20-inch Weld Racing wheels, and six-piston Wilwood front brakes. You also get the aggressive aero styling body kit that ties the whole Super Snake look together.
The price here in America for this complete kit is $54,995, on top of the price of a base Mustang GT, and the Aussies almost certainly have to pay more. That is, if they can get their hands on a Mustang, as there is currently a year-long waiting list just to get into the driver’s seat. It’s not clear when, if ever, Mustang fever will subside, though Shelby and other Mustang parts makers must be enjoying the expanded fanbase and additional sales the global pony car is bringing them.
