We already know the Fiesta ST is one of the most affordable “fun” cars you can buy. Right off the showroom floor it is ready to carve up corners and kill cones on the autocross. However, not only is Ford’s entry-level hot hatch a blast to drive, but the 2017 Fiesta ST is also affordable to own.
The car, which carries a base price of only $21,140, was just awarded the 2017 5-Year Cost to Own Award in the Sporty Compact Cars category by Kelley Blue Book.
“While depreciation (or loss of value) and fuel costs may be the greatest expense incurred in owning a vehicle, there are other factors that can have a significant impact on a consumer’s budget,” the company said. “…Five-Year Cost to Own information takes into consideration depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance fees, maintenance and repair costs, and state fees.”
So, not only does the Fiesta ST crank out 197 horsepower, but its 1.6-liter EcoBoost engine pulls down of 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, which helps contributed to that low cost of ownership. It doesn’t, however, detract from the car’s fun factor.
“This is a rewarding car to rev,” Fiesta calibration supervisor Mark Roberts said when the latest Fiesta ST debuted. “With 202 lb-ft by 3,500 rpm, Fiesta ST gives the performance and feel of an engine twice its size. There’s no waiting at all for the power to just push you back in your seat.”
So, if you are having trouble deciding on adding a car with this kind of performance to your driveway, you can now convince yourself (or your spouse) that owning a hot hatch is actually a sound financial decision.
