Last Sunday morning, two would-be criminals were able to pull off a heist of two brand-new Shelby GT350 Mustangs from Ford’s Flat Rock assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan. According to WXYZ Detroit Channel 7 News, the pair of thieves were able to cut a hole in the fence which surrounds the assembly plant.
“The vehicles pulled up as the security guard left to check that information [referring to the VIN number confirmation],” John Leacher, Police Chief of Flat Rock, said. “The vehicles crashed into the gate and took off from the Flat Rock assembly site.”
Moreover, WXYZ Detroit reports that the assailants took off to regroup at a parking lot just three miles away from the assembly plant. Once police spotted them, the police began to pursue them, but due to traffic, the chase ended.
According to the Flat Rock Police Department, “Over the last two years the Woodhaven Police have investigated the theft of numerous high-dollar Ford Mustangs from the Flat Rock Ford Assembly Plant Storage lot located at 22400 Vreeland Road in Woodhaven. It appears those thefts are associated with the theft from the Flat Rock Plant that occurred Sunday afternoon 07-16-2017.”
Though Ford security keeps fortifying the area, the dedicated thieves seem to find a new weakness to exploit and steal more cars. While the police and Ford are looking to squelch these thefts, that offers no solace to the customers waiting to drive home in a new GT350.
