Friday started as a great day. A day for testing suspensions. i got there early set up and started testing as soon as we could hit the track. I made 3 test passes before qualifying all which pointed me in the right direction. So when round 1 of qualifying came I was prepared. I got the car to leave good with a 1.594 60ft and netted a 11.235 @ 120.03mph. This pass was only .006 off the national record set in Bradenton this season and it was the 1st ever 120mph pushrod pass in the class!
Saturday came and I was feeling good about resetting the record this weekend. The air was dry and the track was fast. Q2 came and I couldn’t get the traction I was looking for, 1.65 60ft but my numbers look quick. So I was gonna have to lay it down on the Q3 run. Now the track came back around and I hit a 1.569 60ft and rolled down to a new Record 11.203 @ 120.24mph. I was on route to do what I planned on this weekend. 3 things, qualify #1,set the record and win the race. After that pass I was asked to stay in Tech and pull off our cylinder head. Which we did and passed tech with flying colors. Some other guys, not so much. Let’s just say our 9 car ladder and my first round bye went to an 8 car ladder and I had to race John Leslie in the am.
Sunday came and the weather looked bleak. We managed to get 1st round in and I did #2 on my list set the national record. In the 1st round I backed up my 11.203 pass with a solid 11.226 @ 120.62 and I got the win light. Now the rain! And usually ATCO is a close race for me about 3 hours. But a 18 wheeler decided to drive off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Long story short I had to drive back to Delaware to get home 7 1/2 hours later.
Hope we get to finish this NMRA!
