Longtime X275 racer Brad Medlock has entered a new class with a new car in 2016. After selling his well0known cyber gray New Edge Ford Mustang to Canadian Greg Henschell, Medlock took some time away from the racetrack to enjoy life and attended some events late in the 2015 season with some of his close racing friends. But after local Mississippi runner Chris Burleson posted his SN95 turbocharged Ford Mustang for sale, Medlock jumped at the chance to return to the sport that he loves.
After checking the car over and doing a little pre-season testing at Memphis on 275s, Medlock shocked everybody in the area when he unloaded the familiar Mustang at Outlaw Street Car Reunion III with the skinny 235s bolted to the rear end housing and sporting an MX235-legal size turbocharger.
Brad came out of the box taking baby steps, learning the tire and power curve processes behind the laptop. After solid numbers in an extremely short time, Brad carried his momentum to Tulsa for the Radial Revenge Tour and scorched the class with not one, but two 4.70 elapsed times at weight and in trim for MX235.
Changing nothing and rolling north from his Arkansas-based home, the Medlock Racing team rolled through the gates at Gateway Motorsports Park for the PSCA Heads Up Hootenanny this past weekend in Madison, Illinois, resting in the shadows of the Gateway arch right across the river in St. Louis.
Coming off the trailer on a 125-plus degree track temperature, Medlock rocked a 4.76 on the board and shocked the whole field. As the sun fell, temperatures lowered, and the track got tighter, Medlock threw a big tuneup in the Kuntz & Company powerplant under the hood and the crowd stood wondering what was coming. Carrying the front wheels well past the 60-foot mark, never pedaling, the front end sat down easily and a few seconds later, the scoreboards lit up to the tune of 4.690 at 153.95 mph!
Medlock wanted to thank his crew, longtime crew chief Barry Phillippi, TS Performance, Kuntz and Company, Precision Turbo and Billet Atomizer Racing Injectors for their support of his program over the multiple seasons and vehicles that Brad has owned in the past. Coming off the runner-up finish at Gateway, the Medlock Racing team is very determined to get back in the winner’s circle at the next event, so be on the lookout in the 235/8.5 pits for the little red SN95 packing a big punch!
