Joel Greathouse Set To Return To Driving In KBX Ultimate Street Car

Engine BayJoel Greathouse was one of the major players in the ten-five world a decade or so ago. As the ten-five fad collapsed into itself, Greathouse, along with most ten-five stars, disappeared from the racing world’s radar as fans sought out other niches to support. Joel never lost his competitive drive though, and is now poised to make a return to the driver’s seat, this time behind the wheel of KBX Performance’s ultra-trick Ultimate Street Mustang. KBX, the Ashland Mississippi-based brainchild collaboration of Jon Bennett and John Kolivas, has put together one of the cleanest Ultimate Street builds we have seen, and with Greathouse at the wheel, it shouldn’t take long for the retina-searing red coupe to find the winner’s circle.

The Fox Body features a 25.5-spec chassis to both protect Greathouse and provide a solid platform upon which the 351W-based powerplant can spin operate. Featuring Ross pistons, GRP rods, and a Callies crankshaft, the bottom end should have no problem coping with all of the boost the rulebook-limited 80mm Precision Turbo can throw at it. On the top end of the motor, you’ll find Comp Cams pushrods and a custom-ground Comp Cams camshaft, Trickflow heads and and Edelbrock intake. KBX designed the turbo system and intercooler for Pressurized Solutions to custom-fab, and it looks wicked fast just sitting still.

side-14This thing truly is a work of automotive art. The color scheme mirrors that of another KBX client; X275 standout Charles Hull. With a pure-as-you’ll-see red hue covering the sheetmetal and black accents, the car is sure to be a head-turner, and with Kolivas and Bennett providing the horsepower, it’s likely to challenge the Ultimate Street record books as soon as the team gathers some data and can nail down the tune. Couple that with Greathouse’s driving prowess and you may be looking at the new car-to-beat in Ultimate Street!
