American motorsports history is chock full of hero drivers and racing crews. Everybody has heard of Bud Moore, or Dan Gurney, and certainly the King, Richard Petty. While our drivers may be more famous than most, plenty of countries have their own racing heritage and automotive heroes, including America’s crazy cousin, Australia. They’ve also got their own versions of our awesome muscle cars, so it really works all the way around.
This video brings together a classic racing legend and a modern muscle machine, with four-time Bathurst 1,000 champion Allan Moffat “turning up the volume” on Ford’s newest, fastest Falcon, most powerful V8 FPV has ever built, the Boss 335 GT.
FPV, or Ford Performance Vehicles, is sort of like an Australian SVT. They build all sorts of crazy-fast cars and have taken our “Coyote” V8, added a supercharger, and called it “Miami” while putting out close to 430 wheel horsepower, if the Internet is to be believed. To help sell this car and get word out to an adoring public, Ford enlisted the aid of Allan Moffat, a legendary Ford racing driver. In addition to his four Bathurst victories, Moffat also racked up four Australian Touring Car Championship victories and six wins at the Sandown 500.
A V8 Supercar Hall of Famer since 1999, Moffat raced Ford Boss 302 Mustangs and Falcons to many victories over the course of his long career, which began in 1965 and didn’t really come to a close until 1989. But you’re probably wondering why this Australian racing champion lacks the proper Aussie accent. Well, Mr. Moffat is actually Canadian, and lived in our northern neighbor for most of his formative years until moving to Australia while in college. Now 71, he is arguably one of Australia’s greatest racing legends, and he sure makes a great car salesman, though we don’t think the Boss 335 GT needs any help flying out of showrooms.
