We recently shared Fords plans to bring back its GT supercar and thought this video would refresh your Ford supercar memories. This Beautifully shot film by Justin Lapriore, captures the ninth Ford GT National Rally in Las Vegas and Autoblog brings us the story.
In association with the Ford GT Forum, it gives a chance for owners to hob nob with fellow GT buffs and grab some seat time on a sunny day. Around 80 cars attended the event. To see all this Ford muscle in one place is rare indeed and reaffirms how cool these cars were.
At the ripe old age of ten, the GT remains a very innovative car, even today, with a long list of cool features. Superplastic formed frame, aluminum body and a “ship in a bottle” gas tank. Power is supplied by a mid-mounted, dry-sump 5.4-liter supercharged V-8 producing 550 HP and 500 lb·ft of torque. A Ricardo six-speed transmission and limited slip differential put power to the pavement and Brembo brakes throw down the anchor. The car ran a 0-60 time of 3.3 seconds and a 1/4 mile 11.2 seconds at 131.2 mph stock, from the Wixom, MI factory.
Rumors are that Ford will simply dust off this still ferocious blueprint and reissue it with modern upgrades. Let’s hope they don’t pull a Viper move and bring back a car that doesn’t seem much different than the car it replaced. The Blue Oval will debut the car at Detroit Auto Show.
The filmmaker employs lots of POV/GoPro shots from behind the wheels of cars at speed on the track. The beauty of the GT’s bodywork and the engine soundtrack is cool, indeed, and make this film’s ten minutes time well spent.
