Nitrous oxide has long been a favorite power adder of many gear heads. Traditionally popular for it’s low starting price, there are few components that you can bolt on for the same cost that will generate as many grins as a good dose of nitrous oxide.
Nitrous Express has long been a leader in nitrous technology, especially when it comes to late model Ford and Mustang performance. We recently took a look at their plate kit offerings for Mustangs from Fox-body, all the way to the current Coyote platform. If you drive a late model Mustang, NX probably has a kit to fit your car.
The 5.0 HO Where it Began
Whether it’s a stock intake manifold wearing 302, or a stroked BOSSs block based engine wearing an Edelbrock Victor series intake, NX offers a plate for it.
Thier Gemini twin 5.0 plates work as a perimeter spray, rather than using the traditional style center spray bars, which can impede airflow. Available with a 5, 10, or 12 pound bottle, these systems can be jetted anywhere from 50 to 300 hp, suiting the needs of a variety of Fox-body enthusiasts. The plates are available in single or dual stage configurations.
These systems also operate off of EFI fuel pressure, meaning there are no extra regulators, or pumps to install. Plate systems for EFI 5.0 Fox-body cars start at just under $1,100.

The 4.6 liter two valve is actually one of the best engines that Ford has ever built in terms of reliability and longevity. Performance fanatics shrugged this engine off in it’s early years, but have later come to love it, as it powered the Mustang and many other Ford vehicles for over a decade.
NX offers a plate kit for two-valve 4.6 liter Mustangs and other Ford two-valve equipped vehicles. Part number 20946-10 comes with jetting for anywhere from an additional 35 to 150 hp. Additional jetting for up to 300 hp can be purchased as well.
The plate mounts between the throttle body plenum and the intake manifold and also features the Gemini Twin Phase 3 spray barless technology. The NX system for 4.6 Fords includes a wide open throttle switch, 10-pound bottle, and fittings necessary for tapping into the engine’s fuel rails so that the lines don’t have to be spliced. It fits 1996-2004 two-valve Mustangs, although some 2003-2004 models may need an additional fitting, part number 16183 due to the lack of a schrader valve. Prices for this system start at just under $700 with a 10-pound bottle.
For 2005 the S197 Mustang began to shake the performance market up again for Ford. With the introduction of the three-valve engine, many in the performance world rejoiced at this engine’s potent power potential.
While today we mostly hear about the forced induction and Coyote set, NX has not forgotten about three-valve owners. Their plate kit for 2005-2010 4.6 three-valve Mustangs offers high tech features at a low tech price.
This plate kit, part number 20947-10 features a billet nitrous plate, with the solenoids integrated into it. Not only does this system utilize the Gemini Twin spray barless technology, it also uses a TPS learn procedure, eliminating the need for a mechanically activated switch. This offers faster response time for nitrous to start flowing, and even more reliable operation. There is no fussing with the correct position of a mechanical switch, and no guessing as to whether it’s moved causing the system to activate too early or not at all.
The system includes jet for adjustment from an additional 35 hp up to 150 hp, with jets to up to 200 hp available separately. The system is also available with a 5, 10, 12, or 15 pound bottle. Additionally it includes a billet fuel block for attaching it to the fuel rails, as well as the arming switches, nuts, bolts, lines, electrical connectors and other hardware needed to install the system. Prices for this one with a 10 pound bottle retail for just over $925.
These days the 5.0 Coyote engine is all the rage in the performance aftermarket. Nitrous Express is keeping up with the demands of today’s late model Mustang enthusiasts by offering their plate kit for the 2011-present Mustang.
Just like the three -valve kit, this plate mounts between the throttle body and intake manifold, and features a billet plate with built in solenoids giving it a sleek apperance, and easing installation. TPS auto learn is also included with this system, as well as Gemini Twin Phase 3 spray barless technology. Jetting included will get a Coyote laughing all the way to an extra 150 hp, while jetting to go as high as 200 hp is available.
With a 10-pound bottle, kit number 20948-10 starts at just shy of $700.
GT500 owners looking to push the power envelope further can opt for a NX plate kit as well. This plate kit, part number 20949-10 feature a billet plate, carbon fiber and aluminum solenoids, TPS wide open throttle switch, and all the parts needed for installation. The plate mounts between the throttle body and supercharger inlet plenum. Jetting included goes from 35 hp all the way up to 200 additional hp. GT500 system pricing starts at $849 for a system with a 10 pound bottle, just like the other systems there are other bottle sizes available at varying costs.
If you prefer your power adder to come from a bottle rather than forced induction, nitrous express has Mustang owners covered for owners of cars from nearly the last thirty years. For more information or to order, check out the Nitrous Express web-site.
