Carlos Sobrino Sets Records And Wins With Fidanza Performance

Carlos Sobrino has won a pair of championships in NMRA Factory Stock banging gears behind the wheel of his Fox body Mustang, so he understands what it takes to get a stick-shifted car down the track. That level of success continued for Sobrino when he made the move to the ultra-competitive Coyote Stock class where he scored a fourth place finish in the points and set the record for the quickest naturally-aspirated Coyote Stock-powered car. These accomplishments are due to his ability shift gears using Fidanza Performance products at the track.

In any form of racing where there’s a limit on the engines you can run, being able to have an efficient driveline is critical. According to Matt Polena from Fidanza Performance, the weight savings their products provide help racers like Sobrino maximize the power they have.

“The reduction of weight helps to release horsepower that previously was used to rotate that mass with the aluminum flywheel and V2 Clutch that Carlos uses. The flywheel weight savings is 33 pounds and the pressure plate savings is 3.5 pounds for a total savings of 36.5 pounds over the stock parts; and they provide better performance.”

To hold all the power when he side-steps his clutch at insane rpm, Sobrino uses Fidanza’s V2 pressure plate and six-puck clutch. With this setup, Sobrino was able to win the Import vs Domestic World Cup All-Motor class last fall and become the world’s quickest Stock N/A Coyote-powered car with a 9.52 elapsed time. Later, Sobrino reset his own record at the AMB Nationals with a 9.48-second blast at 137.7 mph. For Sobrino, the proof is in the results why he uses the Fidanza products to set records: “I was banging out consistent 1.25 sixty-foots during The Imports vs Domestics WCF Race with an off-the-shelf V2.”
