Regardless of generation, the Mercury Capri is just one of those cars that you don’t see everyday. Partially because these cars are highly overlooked, but mostly because they’re (in a sense) more rare than ever.
Once in awhile you can come across an occasional third-gen four-cylinder Capri, but today’s eBay find is the most ideal in many enthusiasts minds. We’re talking about this 1983 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 with the “Bubble Hatch”.
According to the ad placed on eBay, the seller and his wife have decided to sell one of their toys in hopes to buy a new house. The seller says, “It would be fair to call this car ‘restored’ however there is still a little work to do. The motor has been rebuilt, the body has been professionally worked and painted, the list of new parts is endless. Reputable local shops have done all the work. Kirkum Engine and automotive built the engine. It’s a mild build, but a very stout runner. I would estimate the engine to be in the 275 HP range. Definitely an upgrade from stock. The paint is awesome, Done by Crosby Creek collision. I have pictures of the car stripped to bare metal and the motor on an engine stand being redone.”
While the seller admits the car isn’t in perfect shape, we think it still could be considered a good deal. With factory amenities like air conditioning (which the seller says is still working like a charm) and a SROD four-speed manual transmission, is this Capri worth the seller’s asking price of $9,995?
