Some people will spend their whole lives lusting after a specific car, but for one reason or another they never get around to owning it. The original Ford Mustang is high on many dream car lists, and for many people it is simply a lack of opportunity or initiative. But if you or someone who likes you takes a chance, then you might just score the car you’ve always wanted.
That’s the story Shannon posted over at CarsInBarns, describing how this 1969 Mustang Mach 1 went from being neglected in an elderly gentleman’s chicken coop to undergoing an extensive restoration.
Shannon’s brother had been driving around with a friend when he spotted this maroon Mustang parked in a shed that used to be a chicken coop. As luck would have it, the owner was gardening at the time, and so the two stopped by to talk about the car. Shannon had always wanted a Mustang like this, and though it supposedly wasn’t for sale, the gentleman gave his number to Shannon’s brother anyway.
Eventually the two came to a deal, and Shannon is the proud owner if this mostly-original ‘69 Mach 1. We say mostly because the original Lime paint was painted over by maroon, though the 351W 4V engine and FMX automatic transmission are original to the car. While there are some rust issues, Shannon seems optimistic about this Mustang’s chances at a full restoration. Another one is saved, thanks to a negligent owner who gives his car a new lease on life. What car do you wish you could find in a barn?
