Back in 1964, very few people had any inkling of what a huge hit the Ford Mustang would be. That is why so many of the rare and well-known models have survived today, sending their perceived value through the roof. While it is unlikely any future Mustang will ever be worth say, a ‘65 Shelby GT360, there are still plenty of valuable Mustangs out there waiting to be added to your collection.
Though what exactly makes a Mustang valuable these days may be up for debate. Over on AutoTrader we found the very last 1993 Mustang Cobra R ever built, #107 of 107. The asking price? Oh, just $115,000.
Yes, that is $115,000 for a Fox-body Mustang that has only this year turned 20. Up on eBay there is just one ‘93 Cobra R up for sale, the bidding currently just shy of $60,000. That seems a fair price for a high-performance Mustang of which just 107 were built. That said, the single-year Cobra R does not carry either the Shelby name, nor the illustrious heritage of other packages like the Boss 302 or Cobra Jet.
For $115,000, you can add several less-important Mustangs to your collection, though you’ll be hard pressed to find one cleaner. The interior seats and steering wheel are still wrapped in factory plastic, and the odometer registers just 54 miles. In other words, it isn’t even broken in.
With a price tag that high though, we can see why. Is the last of a kind as valuable as the first, or is this ‘93 Cobra R simply overpriced?
