Mustang enthusiasts came from every background, color, and creed, and few cars have the universal appeal that Ford’s pony car does. Few cars have such a diverse array of fans, and being one of the best-known vehicles in the world, the easily recognizable Mustang can be used to great effect to make a point, political or otherwise.
In the wake of the horrific tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last week, the U.S. has been gripped by the debate on gun control. Some people have turned to satire to try and get their point across, which led to the “Ban the Mustang” Facebook page. Unfortunately, it seems like not everybody understands what satire is.
We’re going to avoid the touchy politics of this issue by sticking with the facts. Essentially though, the “Ban the Mustang” Facebook page is an attempt to use humor and satire to argue against the notion of banning certain high-powered, military-style weapons. The Facebook page has links to various news articles where Mustangs were involved in deadly accidents, and includes funny pictures like those above and to the left.
Alas, too many people seem to have taken this Facebook page at face value, believing the author is actually calling for a ban on Ford’s high-powered sports car. The knee-jerk reaction of many Facebook posters, who seem to have a universal disdain for proper spelling and grammar, has led to some particularly nasty posts from Mustang enthusiasts outraged at this proposal.
Suffice to say, we adhere to the notion that you shouldn’t take anything you find on the Internet (including us!) too seriously. Ban the Mustang? Puh-leez….
