There have been many rumors swirling as of late regarding the fate of the Shelby Mustang. The latest word on the street is that the 662 hp Shelby GT500 is on the outs for the next generation S550 platform, due to be replaced by a Shelby GT350. With Shelby already making a GT350 of its own, as well as the Super Snake, and Shelby 1000, the iconic American company seems to be doing just fine if you ask us.
Further proof Shelby is on the ups is the announcement that the company will be opening a new Las Vegas headquarters, between the famous Las Vegas Strip and the oft-used McCarran International Airport.
The new facility will encompass a massive 135,000 square-feet, and will bring all of Shelby’s operations under one roof. Currently the Shelby American operation comprises five separate buildings to build a variety of different Ford-based vehicles, including the Shelby Raptor, the Shelby Focus ST, and Shelby Cobra continuation models in addition to the supercharged Mustangs that regularly leave the shop.
This move to 6405 Ensworth St., one block off of Las Vegas Boulevard (i.e. “The Strip”) will bring all production facilities under a single roof. It will also add a gift shop, museum, and special factory tours of the famed Nevada automaker. This move will hopefully accelerate production and provide better flexibility for new vehicle launches. Shelby hopes to make the move with minimal interruption to current projects, and we’re looking forward to an invitation to the new facility (hint hint).
