Ford knows it has a long road ahead of it in rehabbing Lincoln, and they’ve already taken the first step of rebranding it the “Lincoln Motor Company”. But what many pundits agree that Lincoln really needs is a new, exciting car that can draw new buyers into Lincoln dealerships. We agree, and think that Lincoln really needs is a luxury version of the Mustang.
We aren’t alone in this thinking, and Autoblog came across the design work of Josiah LaCalla, a designer who penned his version of a Lincoln Mustang that screams power, authority, and of course luxury. But would Ford dare to build it?
This Lincoln Mark X1 coupe, as it is called, looks like it was pulled from the pages of 1950s comics; we could totally see Bruce Wayne rocking this ride. With a long, long, loooong hood and a cabin pushed far to the back, this Lincoln Mark X1 cuts a striking figure. The front end is reminiscent of the current Lincoln “waterfall” grilles, and the big wheels let you know that this car means business.
As far as engines go, well it could be anything, though we’d expect at the very least the 5.0 V8 to serve as a base engine. Perhaps a 3.5 liter EcoBoost engine could also be an option, along with the Shelby’s 5.8 liter supercharged, 662 horsepower engine. The hood is certainly long enough to accommodate any of these engines, so the real question remains is when will Ford step up and actually do this? The next-generation Mustang can’t come soon enough…
