With the reveal of the 2015 Ford Mustang early last month, the New Year promises to be one where we hear a whole heckuva lot about the new pony car. Even though we’re still most of a year away from anyone actually being able to buy a 2015 Mustang though, Ford is ready to auction the rights to the first production model later on this month.
On January 18th, bidders will have a chance to own a car that celebrates 50 years of Ford performance, becoming the owners of the very first production Mustang of the S550 era. We’d be shocked if the high bid was anything less than a million bucks.
As usual, Ford plans to donate the proceeds of the auction to JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Funds, a favorite charity of the Blue Oval. The winning bidder will get the rights to the first Mustang, which will definitely be a 5.0 V8-powered GT model with at least 420 horsepower and 390 ft-lbs of torque, though those numbers are likely to rise as production time nears.
Besides that though, the winning bidder will have plenty of time to decide on the exact options and features they want on for the first 2015 Mustang. This includes a plethora of colors new and old, as well as a host of cutting edge technologies like MyFord Touch, push-button start, and accident avoidance features. In the past with this type of deal Ford has pulled out all the stops offering the buyer options that aren’t normally available like a unique color from the Ford palette, or a unique combination of optional parts that wouldn’t normally be sold together, this adds to the uniqueness of the car in the first run. What’s your best guess for the winning bid? How would you option a 2015 if you could have any colors, and options available for the car in any combination?
