Ford first teased us with images of the Focus ST concept over a year ago, first touting it as a concept before admitting that yeah, they planned on selling it all along. The Focus ST will be the first performance application of Ford’s 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine, which is currently at work in the Ford Explorer, Taurus, and Edge models. One of the biggest questions for Focus fans though has been a question of cost.
Well now we have the answer; the Focus ST will have a MSRP of $23,700. Add in a destination charge, and the true cost of the Focus comes to $24,495 before any options…though there are always options to add, isn’t there? Head over to the Ford site to build your own.
That puts the Focus ST in the same price bracket as the Mustang V6, though some might argue the Focus has the better engine. In the Focus ST, the 2.0 liter EcoBoost engine will make 247 horsepower and 250 ft-lbs of torque. Additionally, The Truth About Cars claims that the Focus ST will get a cool “Overboost” feature will temporarily increase horsepower to 252 ponies.
That’s cool, but not as cool as this next tidbit. The first 1,000 Focus ST buyers will get a $272 GoPro HERO2 Camera pack to document the fun and excitement that comes with owning an EcoBoost-powered Focus. With the pricing being what it is, the Focus ST appears well-placed to combat other small performance hatchbacks…but will Ford cannibalize Mustang sales as young buyers flock towards the Focus ST? For that kind of money, you can get rear-wheel drive and more power…so why wouldn’t you?
