It’s not everyday that a big aftermarket manufacturer decides to give everyone a quick “peek” under their skirt, but today is your lucky day! Airaid has created and recently released a behind the scenes look into their facility and how their products are made. But, that’s not all. You will, also, see shots from a variety of the racers and race teams they sponsor across a wide range of motorsports.
So, let’s get a little more in depth. Your host greets you at the door and welcomes you into the facility, noting that Airaid has been around since 1997 and is 100% made in the USA with most of the components actually being made right there in Phoenix, Arizona. Airaid hangs it’s hat on the quality of the materials they use and the fit and finish. Everything they do is an exact fit for the application.
Research and Development phases at Airaid.
From there, we head into research and development and take a behind the scenes look at how their products are engineered. Airaid uses the latest technology coupled with the most up to date information from the OEMs to make each product fits exactly. If OEM specs are not available, then they use a digitizer to scan under the hood and create their own specifications for fitment. All products are tested on a flow bench then installed on a vehicle and dyno tested. They are, also, put to the daily driver test and CARB certified along the way.
Various stages of the How It's Made process at Airaid.
From there we head out to the warehouse for a quick “how it’s made” lesson. We start at the pleating machine showing how the filter media is initially created. From there it is rough cut and stored until it is sent to the cutting station for exact sizing. From there it moves on to the clipping station for the ends to be joined together. Next, it hits the climate controlled pouring room where it is inserted into molds and the rest of the filter is poured and set.
Final markings are added and one final quality check at Airaid before shipment.
It’s final journey is to the oiling station and one final step through QC before being packaged and shipped out.
Airaid ships hundreds of items each day via freight, UPS or Fed Ex.
Airaid’s philosophy is simple…Whether it’s on the street, track or trails the guarantee that Airaid will deliver the performance you demand.
