Drift Pursuit: Police Mustang Chases Down Bimmer Bandit

Gratuitous chase sequence warning, this video contains some seriously awesome drifting action thanks to the DRAGG program. If you have not heard of DRAGG, the acronym stands for Drag Racing Against Gangs & Graffiti. This after-school program located in Oxnard, California, enlists the help of automotive industry professionals and law enforcement to help high school students avoid criminal activity.

“Our main push now is getting kids involved in the automotive industry instead of having them spend time on the streets getting into trouble. We want to push them to look at what’s out there for them, instead of going down the path that we see far too many of them taking,” Officer Charles Woodruff explained.

“We’ve had a great response to the program. It started with the local schools and is now with the entire (Ventura) county,” he added. “We give them lots of hands-on experience at different locations—there are six students out here today on this video shoot and we’re trying to incorporated them into the video. That’s the really cool part: not only are they in class learning to change oil and stuff like that, we also take them on tours to Vortech’s place, for instance, to show them why they need the math and computer skills.”

This video helps to promote the efforts of the students enrolled in the DRAGG Program through the use of the Thin Blue Line build. In the opening sequence, “Officer Dan” Brockett gets a call to pursue a bank robbery suspect who is driving a high-performance BMW. Dan gets behind the wheel of the 2015 Ford Mustang known as “The Thin Blue Line,” to chase down the Coyote-powered Bimmer driven by Matt Coffman.

This is not a basic EcoBoost Mustang by any means, thanks to the partnership between DRAGG and Vortech this project was treated to a Vortech Charge Cooled S550 upgrade kit. Originally, Thin Blue Line came to life thanks to a partnership with Ford, AmericanMuscle.com, Vortech, and many other sponsors. It made its debut at the 2015 SEMA show in Las Vegas and is now the star of this short drift film.

In a classic game of cops and robbers, the Mustang powered BMW leads “Officer Dan” to the Camarillo Airport where there is small plane waiting for the bad guy. Both drivers drifted their way to the airport and upon arrival begin to circle the small aircraft. In the haze of tire smoke, the bad guy flees the BMW and attempts to board the plane.

However, Officer Dan, is there to save the day and recover the stolen money. As all of this is taking place a chopper is hovering above and at one point becomes the center of a drift sequence. With multiple camera angles, tons of tire smoke, drifting, hilarity, and a helicopter, it is hard not to enjoy this pursuit.

The DRAGG program helps high school students get involved in the automotive industry instead of falling prey to criminal activity. Thanks to support from Ford and other aftermarket manufacturers the students involved in DRAGG were able to take part in the build of The Thin Blue Line Mustang as well as this video shoot.

Spoiler Alert…

Just when you think the video is over, it flashes to an average guy sitting behind the wheel of his commuter car at the stop sign. A siren bleeps startling the driver from his daydream and he makes a left turn at the stop sign to continue on his way. Just when you think the entire thing was a just a dream sequence, you see the 2015 Thin Blue Line Mustang following behind the boring little commuter car.2 2015 Mustang DRAGG Pursuit Video
