The new “Coyote” 5.0L under the hood of the 2011 Mustang GT is turning out to be a pretty potent mill, and everybody in the business is throwing parts at it to make it even more stout. That’s awesome, but don’t forget that as these cars get faster, the tech inspectors are going to be taking a much closer look to make sure racers aren’t getting ahead of themselves. For instance, once you break into the tens, the NHRA rulebook requires that you have a harmonic balancer that meets SFI 18.1 specs. ATI Performance Products is ahead of the curve on this one, with a new Super Damper for this application that will help protect your crank and keep you from getting DQ’ed at the same time.
Official Press Release:
ATI Performance Products, Inc. is proud to introduce its Super Damper for the 2011 Mustang GT with the newly released 5.0L Coyote engine. In an effort to stay ahead of the competition, ATI is the first to offer an acceptable dampening solution for this newly popular and well reviewed engine. The 2011 damper is offered in an OEM replacement diameter (918047) with dual 6 rib serpentine drive pulleys to run the Mustang accessories. The damper also includes provisions for bolt on crank pulleys from most popular supercharger companies. The Mustang damper comes with laser-etched timing marks and exceeds SFI 18.1 Safety Certification.
