Road Blog: Day 7 GoodGuys Hall of Fame Tour

Day 7 of the Goodguys Road Tour started out in Lincoln, Nebraska with a light rain that eventually subsided and was replaced with a warm welcome from the cozy little town of Manhattan, Kansas, where the city blocked off the main street and invited the Tour participants to park center-stage. Townspeople came out to see the cars, including a group of guys from the local tech school, whose instructor let them out just to see the show. They seemed to like my Mustang! After a few minutes of enjoying coffee and donuts with the locals we were headed to the next stop in Wichita, Kansas.

Along the way we passed by the place I bought my car from in 2009, Ford of Augusta, still the best eBay purchase I’ve ever made. If I’d had more time I would have stopped to say hi and relive a great memory. The next stop was Lawrence Smith’s private car collection in Wichita, which showed off Smith’s expensive tastes with a double row of vintage Bentleys and Rolls Royces, as well a few hot rods, exotics, and even a vintage airplane in the front lobby—our favorite little guy on the tour, the son of Michael Kaiser (of Hot Rods and Customs of Andice, Texas) was a big fan of the plane.

After the tour of the collection we were off to Kicker Audio’s headquarters in Stillwater, Oklahoma. You may have noticed a recurring theme through all this year’s events with a large pink Kicker logo on my hood. This was my first time actually meeting the awesome people that help make all these trips possible, so needless to say I was a little bit nervous. Finally putting a face to all the emails was going to be great but I didn’t want to show up with all these amazing, high-dollar hot rods and have them look at my little car and think, “What the heck are we doing?”

So how did it go? Freaking awesome! I finally got to see where all the magic happens with the hardware that keeps the Styx tunes pumping through my Kicker speakers and sounding great at 75 mph with the windows down. Everyone I spoke to at Kicker has such passion for music and sound—they weren’t trying to sell the participants speakers, they wanted you to truly feel the experience every time they turned up the volume level on the stereo. Not only that, but they fed us some excellent Oklahoma BBQ and brought in special beer from Mustang Brewing Company! They certainly know the way to this Mustang girl’s heart!

The final day of the tour is tomorrow with stops at Steve Cook Creations and Ted Davis’ Car Collection. I still can’t believe how fast the past 7 days have flown by. Texas Motor Speedway, here we come!
