If you put it up for nominations, votes for the baddest Shelby ever would likely fall in two distinct camps. For the classic Shelby guys and girls, there is little doubt that the 427 Cobra roadster would be the all-time favorite. In 1966, Shelby redesigned the Cobra chassis to take the larger 427cui V8 engine and a legend was born. Original examples have become prohibitively expensive in the collector car market, but the company reintroduced the car as a continuation series in 1997.

Those who favor the more modern products are likely to have a different opinion, though. Among the recent variants to emerge from the Shelby facilities in Las Vegas, NV, the 750hp Shelby Super Snake Mustang would likely be the most popular candidate.

The Shelby Super Snake is a post-title conversion package, available for 2007 through 2011 Shelby GT500 Mustangs. After dropping your ride off at an Shelby-authorized Mod Shop, or at the Las Vegas HQ, the conversion process will get you either a 630hp or 750hp version of the most modern snake.

So what happens when you put these two ground-pounding, tire-shredding, pavement-wrinkling cars up against each other? That very question occurred to the folks over at Hot Rod magazine. So, they marshaled their resources and clout with the Shelby American folks and got one of each to test. Tell me again… these guys get paid for what they do? It’s all covered in the video below.
