The Ford Crown Victoria is an old, lumbering dinosaur of a car, and yet it keeps on trucking (though not for much longer.) Even with the much-vaunted P71 Police Interceptor package, the ancient Panther platform upon which the Crown Vic rests isn’t exactly nimble anymore. Then again, you don’t have to be very nimble to enjoy some fine power sliding action.
Jalopnik came across this video of Joe Williams from Driveway Austin behind the wheel of a P71 Crown Vic, and he shows us how to power slide in a Panther like a pro.
Driveway Austin is a driving academy located, where else, but Austin, Texas. We’re not sure who this Joe Williams fellow is, but he makes power sliding a Crown Vic look easy. Could it be that all those Hollywood movies featuring cop cars sliding all over the road weren’t that far from the truth about driving a Panther? Probably not, as we’ve never seen actual officers sliding around like fools.
On the same token, the Crown Vic apparently makes a great teaching tool…just like it makes a great taxi cab, police cruiser, and many other applications. We know that we will be sad to see the Panther platform finally come to an end, but all good things must end one day. At least there will be a plethora of used Crown Vics on the road for decades to come.
