The marketing campaign for the new Ford Mustang has been lackluster to say the least, and could explain why Mustang sales are suddenly lagging behind the Camaro, despite a hot new look and engine lineup. Ford fans have noticed this lack of advertising, and some of them have stepped up to the plate with their own take on commercials for the Blue Oval. We already showcased one such commercial set to LL Cool J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out.”
Now we’ve got another commercial, this one for the 2012 BOSS 302 Mustang. The voice over work was actually lifted from a commercial for the Dodge Charger and voiced by “Dexter” actor Michael C. Hall. It is appropriately awesome.
The fan commercial actually uses video and images of the BOSS 302 B-roll, which is essentially just the BOSS rolling around, driving here and there, with a few engine grunts thrown in for good measure. But when you add Michael C. Hall asking “What is that thing?” it adds a whole new dimension to the commercial. “Dexter” goes down a long list of things that the BOSS 302 isn’t, including a yoga class and a “man bag.”
Compared to the original, 30 second Dodge Charger commercial we’ve got to say that there is a lot more going on in the BOSS 302 commercial. And as of late Ford has been sniping and stealing other brands thunder (Ken Block from Subaru for example) so we’d love to see Ford steal Dexter away and start doing some adds for the Blue Oval. The BOSS 302 and serial killer Dexter. A match made in Heaven?
