It must be pretty awesome to be one of the higher-ups at Ford Motor Company. Forget the private jet, the huge salary, generous benefits, and corner office on top of a tall building. Just being able to know what awesome cars Ford has planned for the future would be enough of a perk for us to sign on to the job.
Car & Driver reports that during a press preview event at the Detroit Auto Show, Ford’s Vice President of Global Marketing Derrick Kuzak said that it is “fair to assume” that there is an EcoBoost Mustang in the near future. It’s the second slip by a Ford exec regarding an EcoBoost Mustang in the past year.
The exact quote, as Car & Driver puts it, is this; “Given the success we’ve had with EcoBoost across the lineup that we’ve talked about, it is fair to assume that we will have an EcoBoost Mustang in the very near future.” Ding ding ding! Sounds good to us. Now, let the reckless speculation begin!
Ford currently has three EcoBoost engines going into production in America; a 170-180 horsepower 1.6 liter 4-banger, a 240+ horsepower 2.0 liter EcoBoost, and a 355 horsepower 3.5 liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. We’re betting that it’ll be one of the two smaller EcoBoost engines, slated in right beneath the V6 engine (or perhaps above it?) It’s looking more and more like the 2.0 liter EcoBoost will be the Mustang engine option of choice.
We would love to see the SVO Mustang make a comeback with turbo four-pot power, but do you agree? Is there an EcoBoost Mustang in your future?
