SEMA is the industry trade show where most companies bring out their big guns; they bring out stuff that you don’t see, or haven’t seen yet, and put it out on display so that automotive industry – and anyone who we share this information with – can see the best of the best.
Chris Alston’s Chassisworks was one of the booths we visited, and alongside their Camaro Pro-Touring chassis, we saw an early Mustang that caused us to cruise over and take notice. While we’ve seen cool Pro-Touring Mustangs before, the difference with this one was that the entire chassis was designed and built to put this Mustang on the track and to be competitive with some of the best out there.
With a Fab 9 rearend housing and Vari-Shocks at each corner, that’s only the beginning. The coilovers with dual-adjustable shocks help to fine tune the suspension, and the intricate chassiswork and supports throughout keep the car stiff and capable of hanging with the front of the pack.
The cross-bracing in the engine compartment keeps things squared up, regardless of how much punishment you give this Mustang. And the gStreet Pro-Touring Chassis System is a complete kit that includes all of the panels and framework needed, as well as the front and rear suspension system. Current applications include ’67-’81 Camaro and Firebird, and ’67-’70 Mustang, with more applications planned.
This is not the car for someone who wants a classic to cruise around the fairgrounds with, this is a system designed for hardcore autocross and Pro-Touring. Lino Chestang, Marketing Manager at Chassisworks, also told us about the body fixture components that they can provide you with during the build. The Chassisworks fixture, when assembled, will hold the body and keep it from twisting and flexing while the vehicle is being worked on, and will bolt up to a common 2-post lift, or casters are also available for added mobility.
