Way back in 1991, John Hennessey created Hennessey Performance Engineering to focus on turning the just-announced Dodge Viper into a turbocharged, four-wheeled missile. Over the past two and a half decades Hennessey has expanded his talents to other vehicles and brands, even as he faced allegations of fraud over exactly how he ran his business. Today, Hennessey is an undeniable performance legend, and to celebrate 25 years of making Texas-sized horsepower numbers, HPE has unveiled a unique S550 Mustang that can eclipse 200 MPH.
The Mustang HPE800 25th Anniversary Edition may not win any awards for its moniker, but with an alleged top speed of 207 MPH and a supercharged 5.0 V8 belting out 804 horsepower, nobody should care.
Priced at $99,500 for the completed car, customers will be treated to more than just an overly powerful motor cramming air through its intake. Its 15-inch Brembo front brakes, 20-inch lightweight Hennessey wheels, and a Hennessey/KW Variant 3 lowered suspension help drivers make the most of the extra horsepower. A carbon fiber air-induction system feeds cold air to the 2.9-liter supercharger, and upgraded injectors along with a higher-capacity fuel pump ensure the engine has plenty of fuel to make nearly double the power of a stock 435-horsepower Coyote 5.0.
The whole package comes wrapped in a unique Hennessey body kit that includes new side skirts, a front splitter, and rear spoiler. Limited to just 25 examples, each Mustang will be serialized and wears a unique plaque to commemorate the occasion. Hennessey promises a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty, which is the same as Ford. It speaks to the power of the original pony car that Hennessey, who got his start building Vipers, would celebrate a quarter-century with a special edition Mustang.
Then again, Hennessey’s personal car of choice is a HPE700 Mustang. The guy has good taste we would say.
