Before being ousted from the company he founded, Steve Saleen was still cranking out world-class Mustangs loaded with aftermarket improvements branded with the Saleen name. So popular had Saleen Mustangs become that clones and tributes became more common than the real thing. This popularity allowed Saleen to splurge on some truly unique marketing initiatives.
Things like this 2005 Saleen Mustang, which has been cut in half as a display model. It’s up on eBay right now with a Buy It Now price of just $35,500. We think it’d be the ultimate show piece for any garage, and it is a bargain at that price.
As we all already know, 2005 marked the Mustang’s return to its retro looks, and companies like Saleen wasted no time in churning out their own street and track versions of the S197 platform. For Saleen, they wanted to showcase how their improvements were more than skin deep. To do that, they cut a brand new Extreme S281 Mustang right now the middle.
The driver’s side has had many body panels peeled back to show the workings underneath, while the passenger’s side was left whole. The car can be fit together, or separated. The auction includes a glass display case, and we think it would be incredibly baller to mount half of a Saleen Mustang on the wall of our garage or shop. Baller indeed.
