Ah, the DeTomaso Pantera is such an awesome car from the early ’70s. As we’re sure you know, the Pantera is a unique machine. Some would even say that Tom Tjaarda and his designs were ahead of their time, and we wouldn’t disagree.
Debuting in Modena, Italy, followed shortly by an appearance at the New York Motor Show, the conception of the Pantera surely was a quick one. Americans greeted the Pantera with a fascination that was even more expeditious, which led to fast-tracking it into production quicker than its mid-mounted, 351-cubic-inch Cleveland V8 engine revved.
Again, designed ahead of its time, the Pantera featured electric windows, factory air-conditioning, and a handful of performance bonuses, such as power-assisted, four-wheel disc brakes and a rack-and-pinion steering system.
This particular Pantera, found on Fantasy Junction, is actually an L model. The Pantera L, introduced in late 1972, debuted as a Lusso (Luxury) model.
“This 1974 Pantera L has been in the same family for over 20 years,”According to the original listing. “Purchased in California in 1995 with only 19,000 miles, the car has covered a total of 27,500 miles since new, having been carefully maintained by both father and son over the past two decades.”
The listing goes on to say that in 2013, the engine was completely rebuilt, and the engine compartment reconditioned and freshened by Pantera experts at Emiles Sports Car Performance in Santa Cruz, California, at 26,185 miles on the clock.
