Tesla’s dual motor Model S may have made a name for itself a few months ago when it embarrassed a new owner of a Dodge Challenger Hellcat at the drag strip (which has since been rectified), but the P85D’s days as the king of the all-electric drag strip terrors might be at an end.

You may remember this Mustang from our story on it a few months ago. The Zombie 222’s numerical designation stands for “two motors, two controllers and too damn fast”, and for good reason. Not only did the Zombie 222 recently set the record for all-electric vehicles in the Texas Mile, they also beat Caroll Shelby’s unofficial 170 mile per hour top speed record in a first-generation Mustang.

Now the Zombie crew have set their sights on the drag strip, and their first hapless victim is the Tesla Model S P85D.

The Tesla is certainly no slouch, knocking out mid-11 second quarter mile passes that are drama free, but when the 800 horsepower Zombie 222 steps up to the line, it absolutely blows the Tesla into the weeds, cranking off a low 10 second pass that’s almost a second and half quicker than the Tesla’s time.

Of course, for a number of reasons a direct comparison between these two is dubious at best. First, the Tesla is a production-spec luxury sedan designed not only to be quick, but comfortable, safe and on-par in terms of fit and finish with the top brands in the automotive industry.

Secondly, while the P85D isn’t exactly cheap at $105,670, it’s still almost 100K short of the Zombie 222’s $200,000 asking price. Regardless, competition breeds innovation, so this can only be good for those that want to go fast, gas-free.
