Bowler Performance Transmissions is proud to announce the release of our new Universal Hydraulic Master Cylinder Kit (part# UMK-78-3) for manual transmission applications. With the continued rise in popularity of hydraulic actuated clutches in the custom car industry we felt it was necessary to offer a first-class solution to the builder that demands quality and consistency for their car even when a direct fit kit is not available. Priced at $595.00, the kit is built and designed around a top of the line Tilton 78 series master cylinder. This master cylinder utilizes a rear spherical bearing mount and one-piece piston/pushrod to virtually eliminate the possibility of side load on the piston bore, providing a wider range of misalignment in connection to the clutch pedal. The kit also includes: a beautifully machined aluminum mounting system finished in a black anodize, a black anodized billet remote reservoir, stainless braided connection lines, all required fittings, and clutch pedal pushrod with spherical rod end.
The UMK is designed to fit best on a flat firewall/mounting surface to fully utilize the 2-piece plate mounting system. The mounting system “sandwiches” the mounting surface between the 2 plates creating a solid foundation to press against. This will eliminate any chance of the attachment hardware pulling through the firewall or mounting surface during “spirited” driving. With the amount of misalignment adjustment we’ve factored into the mounting surfaces we’ve included a brush seal to deter dirt and debris from entering the vehicle. The 3.75” long, left and right hand threaded push rod, which is included, can easily be adjusted out to find the perfect length or trimmed down to fit shorter applications. We recommend a 6:1 final pedal ratio for optimal pedal feel and performance.
The Tilton 78 series master cylinder pairs well with a variety of slave cylinders and release bearings. We find the best performance and repeatability is in conjunction with one of the Tilton 6000 series hydraulic release bearings. The master cylinder is built with a 13/16” bore and 1.1” stroke. The body is machined billet aluminum and finished with a special low friction coating to minimize wear and provide smooth operation. Each unit is hand-built and blueprinted for cut-off port travel.
